My love for design started early—at seven years old, my dad handed me a hammer and said, “If you want to live here, Nicole, you’d better help build it.” My mom taught me to sew, my artist grandmother showed me the magic of color, and just like that, creativity became my favorite language.
Fast-forward to Cornell University, where I found the dream combo: Textile Design & Business Management. A few corporate gigs later (retail, banking, marketing—you name it), I realized spreadsheets weren’t nearly as satisfying as creating beautiful spaces. So I took a leap, started sewing window treatments for my own home, and before I knew it, Distinctive Designs by Nicole was born—now known as Distinctive Interior Designs.
My first big “pinch me” moment came when Bassett Furniture introduced me to a builder who needed help with a 5,000 sq. ft. model home. I told him, “If you don’t let me accessorize it, it’s just going to look like a furniture warehouse with great window treatments.” He agreed—and we’ve been working together ever since!
Since launching in 1998, our amazing team has helped reimagine over 10,000 spaces across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. We bring heart, humor, and a whole lot of style to everything we do—because great design should feel as good as it looks.
