Here’s a fun challenge:  create a bright open feeling space with floors that are 1 1/2″ different in height.  Wonderful renderings and ‘faith’ to the rescue!  Check out the 2 rendering options it came down to below.

We knocked out a wall, reused the island to create a pennisula (creating a much more open space to ‘dance’ in the kitchen), painted the lower cabinets a beautiful colonial blue, and added pops of white carrara and quartz.
